Welcome to a Summer of Esperanto in Sydney  -  2010

Two Week Intensive Course - Immerse Yourself in Esperanto!

Enjoy two weeks of study, social activities, and Esperanto culture in beautiful Sydney.

Our courses are designed to help those who are new to Esperanto to discover the ease of learning this international language while immersing themselves in this beautiful language.

For those who have already started to learn we will help you to improve your language skills and to practice speaking and listening to others who are at the same level as you.

For advanced Esperanto speakers you will meet up with friends, make some new ones and be able to use your knowledge in a practical way.

January is a great time to visit Sydney as there is so much happening. As well as the beaches, restaurants and sport, January sees the Festival of Sydney  which for three weeks each January offers a rich program of around 80 events involving upwards of 500 artists from Australia and abroad covering dance, theatre, music, visual arts, cross media and forums.

Last Day. Friday 23rd January 2009

Today, orange T shirts were worn by everybody in preparation for our group photo which was taken mid-morning under a huge old liquidambar tree behind the Old School. Someone forgot the flag, but that gave our photographer, Kam Lee, extra time to adjust his focus, and us time to practice our smiles. Not that it was too hard to do that, we had been smiling for two weeks! After the arrival of the flag, the official record of those present at the Sydney Esperanto Summer School 2009 was taken.

An Evening with LOTE Wednesday Evening 21st January 2009

Languages other than English.
Penny Voss gave us a very interesting illustrated talk on why Esperanto should be taught in Australian schools. She started with facts and figures showing that the present system of teaching languages in Australian schools is failing and listed all of the reasons why Esperanto, when introducd, will beat the teaching of other languages 'hands down' .
Dianne Lukes chaired the meeting which was followed by discussion in  groups according to State, with findings then submitted to the group as a whole.

Monday 19th January 2009. Our afternoon trip to the Sydney Koala Park

Another box of chocolates appeared on our way to the Sydney Koala Park, over the Sydney Harbour Bridge again, but this time to an area where we have not been before. North West Sydney, West Pennant Hills, 45 minute's drive away. Underneath Lane Cove in a very long road tunnel and a couple of small tunnels and we were there. Our bus driver said that it was his last trip with us and gave us all a chocolate Teddy Bear.

Our Afternoon in Manly

After the box of chocolates had been passed around, our bus began to climb the approaches to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Another perfect day in Sydney and some on the bus intended to tackle the Manly surf when we arrived.

The End of the Week

Sunday 18th January
More pictures going up in the Gallery.
We have been that busy with classes and excursons and evening sessions, and eating
that no time is left for blogging. We have found out that life in Central Sydney is very different
to life in Torquay, Victoria. The only similarity is that both are beside the sea. Although Torquay has better coatsal scenery and surf than Sydney.
Interesting people have also been popping in to our classes and evening sessions to share their insights into Esperanto and its place in the world.
